In 2259, a plague known as Drafa, began infecting the Markab. The Markab species has a strong religious dogma that associates the Drafa plague with immorality. Their unswerving adherence to this dogma, itself a racial denial, prevented even medical research into the plague. This deep-rooted dogma and denial resulted in the ultimate annihilation of the Markab species, when the Drafa plague struck in 2259.

Aboard Babylon 5, the plague was stopped barely in time to keep it from spreading to the Pak'ma'ra and other species with similar neuro-transmitter chemistry.
