Epsilon 3
From The Great Machine
Epsilon Eridani 3, usually called Epsilon 3, was a planet located deep in neutral territory in the Epsilon Eridani star system.
Epsilon 3 was the planet around which Babylon 5 orbited. It was classified as uninhabited and uninhabitable with no raw materials worth mining but was actually home to The Great Machine. -- (A Voice in the Wilderness)
It was difficult to measure the planet's scale given the shots against space. Epsilon 3 could have been as large as Earth or as small as Pluto. It is not unreasonable to assume it wasn't much larger because it wasn't a gas giant.
Appearances
As well as appearing in nearly all 110 episodes of Babylon 5, and several episodes of Crusade, Epsilon 3 appeared in the movies: Thirdspace, The River of Souls, A Call to Arms, The Gathering, and the Legend of the Rangers.
Tenants
- Epsilon 3, and The Great Machine, became host to a Minbari "Keeper," Draal, upon the death of its previous (race unspecified) host, Varn. -- (A Voice in the Wilderness)
- Supporting the Keeper is the remaining male line of an unspecified, presumed cloned race with the family and given name, Zathras. -- (Babylon Squared, War Without End)
- Some sources even claim that Sheridan's secret mission to Sector 919 during In the Beginning could have been to Epsilon 3, located in "neutral territory".
- The Station was originally going to be far, far away:
- We'd at one point considered setting B5 at Chi Draconis, but have pretty much decided to leave it in the Epsilon star system.
