Republic
Hurr worship three gods, all male. The most popular is Bron, a chaotic god, patron of gamblers. Other Hurr worship Rikay, a more conservative god whose teaching urge moderation in all things. The final god Skartu is an avenging god with strict rules of behavior and very few Hurr follow this faith. Hurr are not a very spiritual people and religion is not all that important to them.
Hurr civilization is about 3,000 earth years old. It is a very intolerant and factionalized civilization and thoroughly male-dominated. Females are considered inferior in all ways and relegated to childbearing and providing pleasure and company to the males. They do not have the right to vote and marriage is considered the ultimate achievement of the female. There is a budding feminist movement in progress but the going is slow. Economic disparity is rampant and there is a large class of people who live in poverty, a smaller middle class, and a very small wealthy elite. Crime and political corruption are rife on Androma and crime lords work hand in glove with the Republic. Most Hurr are city dwellers and the Hurr city-states are always overcrowded. Some few Hurr live in rural areas but these are getting to be scarce. Hurr prize wealth, power and comfort. They are fairly xenophobic, getting along best with races similar in appearance to their own such as humans, Centauri and Brakiri.
The Hurr have had interstellar flight for about 55 years. Their tech level is low and mainly geared toward environmental control, power supplies, communications and food synthesis.
The Hurr are a belligerent race. Fortunately, they do not have the military power to back up their belligerence. They have a small fleet of warships possessing a patchwork of weapons bought from the Narns or Centauri along with the best the Hurr can manage to build themselves. Their ships can only manage to exceed those of Grome. Their troops fight well on the ground but again are hampered by lack of advanced technology.
The Hurr have no colonies, only orbital military stations and factories. |
