PROGRAMMER

What is your role on the project?
I am a software engineer (programmer) on B5. I join in with the other members of the programming team in designing and developing the heart of the game. It's nice to see your ideas become part of a soon-to-be classic HIT! I am also responsible for sound effects and music. They are often overlooked, but we are not going to in this game.

What are you currently working on?
Victor Crews [musician] and I are working on music. I would like to tell you more but Designer-Programmer Privilege has been invoked. I will tell you if you can get the Supreme Court to rule against the Privilege. The game should be out by then...

What is the hardest part of your job?
Staying on the cutting edge without hurting ourselves. Really, it's balancing what we demand from customers' machines. What features are going to be feasible on the high-end machines of next year? What features do we drop if the machine can't keep up a decent frame rate? We want it to be fun even if you have a minimum machine but if you have a high-end one, we want you to show it off!

What is the coolest part of your job?
That's hard. I love so much about being here. The location, the company, the people, the perks (games), the job itself are all wonderful. It is great to have the latest hardware on your desk and I always brag that I have joysticks at work to play-test games. But the best part is the work. I am asked (not threatened) to come up with some awesome code, and I AM given the time and means to do just that. I am getting paid to do what I love - program cutting-edge software in C++.
