SIERRA NEWS UPDATE
Top Vendors Choose B5 for Industry Conference
Intel, NVidia, and 3Dfx Demo Pre-Alpha Version to Show Upcoming Products

Mar.16.99
Every year top game designers from around the world gather to see the hottest software and hardware vendors, take classes on the newest programming methods, and most importantly, to try and understand more of what makes a game "cool."

This year's Game Developers Conference (formerly CGDC), held at the San Jose Convention Center March 15-19th, is no exception. Billed as a "technical exposition" on the event's official website, the event is not just a run-of-the-mill tradeshow. The show will host demonstrations and tutorials covering the next generation of PC processors, 3D cards, and other hot technologies that will affect the game industry in the coming months.

B5: Coming soon to an arcade near you.More than five different vendors, including Intel and top 3D card manufacturers 3Dfx and NVidia, have chosen the Babylon 5: Space Combat Simulator to showcase their new gaming hardware during the conference. Brainco, an industry newcomer, is showing the game as part of their line-up of motion-simulating coin-op arcade machines. Plans are being finalized to bring the Babylon 5 SCS into the arcade.

The GDC build, borne from an all night programming session last Sunday, looks "really awesome" according to B5 team programmer Jeff Reitman. For the show, the game will only run in multiplayer mode. Sierra FX is guarding several key features of the single player game for later release.
