Randy At His Best:
Randy answered a few questions on the forum. He was ... inconclusive at best.
Take a look:
Will there many cutscenes, if so can u tell me how many?
RL: There will be cutscenes. Not sure how many yet. Just enough to move the story
along. We're keeping in mind that this is a space combat simulator not a movie.
And will we be able to see the pilots jump into their fighters?
RL: don't know yet.
Will exiting the ship or station be a cutscene or will it be manual? Thanks in advance.
RL: both.
Did I say inconclusive? I meant to say he can beat Kosh, hands down, anytime. :)

Some Good News: While
replying to my inquiry about the Ship Preview Ken gave
us some good news:
We have not forgotten about the updates!
Most of the Web group is very busy working on several of
the other projects that we are producing. We are also looking
to 'freshen-up' the look of the site and add some things that
may be more interesting. There will be times when the site
slows down (hopefully not this bad again), but the results
will make a better site.
thanks for your patience.

PJL Give Thumbs Up:
Ken Prugh informed us of PJL's approval of the alpha
version from the physical point of view. Here is his post:
Actually, we just got done showing our demo to JPL (Jet
Propulsion Laboratories [part of NASA])for their comments.
They gave it a thumbs up! I am taking this as a sign that we
are on the right track. We still have a lot of tweaking to do
though.
If you want to check it out, we will have a large presence at
VorCon next week.
On a side note, I'll refrain from posting links to posts on the board because they stay
on for a limited time and the new boards will be here soon. If possible, I'll just copy
the whole post here. If anyone has anything to say about that, you can e-mail me by
clicking on my name at the bottom of this post (or any post, for that matter).

CapShips Info: Here
is a what Marc had to say about Capital Ships:
Capital ships will be controlled by a fairly sophisitcated AI (and
in some cases, a bit of player control). They will be "live", active
participants in any situation they find themselves in, not just scenery.
Sounds good to me. I would like to know more about the "bit of player
control" part though...

New Messsge Board:
Actually, this is not really news, but it was news for me and it's also good news so
here goes.
Solstice, the moderator of the B5 sim Message Board posted this announcment:
NOTICE: Sierra.com's message boards will be brand new on October
1. Be on the look out for the new message board format but same great boards here at
sierra.com on Thursday, October 1, 1998. Unfortunately, all messages posted here up from
now until Oct. 1 will be wiped clean when the new boards go live. Thank you! Webmaster
-----
I'm told the new message boards will be in the same general format as Blizzard uses for
their boards.

New Interview: Well
I finally got caught up in reading the forum, now if someone could develope a program to
sort paraphrase and convert content into HTML I might just get the FAQ caught up as well.
I also managed to find the "Live Internet Phone Interview" that Randy
Mentioned last Thursday. You can find the interview HERE and
the B5 segment starts at about 22 minutes into the show.
PCM&E also has some new screen shots and some old ones along with a couple
of shots from the show in Atlanta. And hey, whose the chubby guy in those two pictures
next to Jerry Doyle? Could that be... Yep that's yours truly, and man can that guy be mean
spirited while hunting down Tracy Scoggins in a Starfury.

FAQ Question of
the Day:
Will there be rigid limits to the engagement zone?
How much space will we have to "fly" around in while in combat. If we go out
of the combat "zone" will the mission end in failure or will your 'Fury be
automatically turned around and returned to combat with a warning from C&C?
In general terms I can tell you this: we are trying to give the
player a lot of autonomy. But you will have to live with the consequences of your actions.
Its an evolving universe. (Randy)
You will have a virtual universe (but not endless) to run around
in. We will not be limiting your navigation. Of course there are always consequences to
straying from the path. (Marc Hudgins)
Cool, we can run away from the battle but might get a scolding when we return, run ito
other opposition, or simply run out of fuel? You know we'll all be trying it now. |

Starfury Animation Showing Decal Location
I noticed on the forum a thread regarding
the location of the decal on the Starfury. Well, Arrghman was super creative, and made an
AVI animation of the Starfury showing the exact spot of the decal.
You just have to check this out!!
By the way, got the archive setup. The
edited chat will be posted later. Sorry guys, I just had a busy day with my real job. |

Webmaster's Note
Well here is what I intend to do today here
at FirstOnes.com:
Add an animation of the Decal location on
the starfury, which one of our readers sent in (very cool animation).
Try and figure out how to archive this
site, and archive the main page.
Edit the chat log as I said I would to a
nice clean layout.
All this should be done during the day. |

Online Chat Event Log
Check out the log of the IRC chat we had
with Dan Foy, the Co-Designer/Lead Programmer and with Ken Prugh, the Producer right over here.
I intend to post an edited clean version
during the weekend, which will make it much easier to follow and read (which is the main
idea no ?). Kevin is of course going to use the content for the FAQ, so expect many
updated in the next few days.
For those of you who participated, thanks
for coming! We sure had a good time (even though it was 5 am for me:))
Good night:) |
